Grange Over Sands

We broke our journey to Grange in Lancaster and eventually found the priory and the Georgian streets that surrounded it.

.

The priory was very dark under the weight of Victorian coloured glass but the choir stalls were medieval and there was an organ to spare.

.

The stone floor had had several cans of Pledge sprayed over it and buffed.

.

I bought a book of Lakeland walks in a Lancaster charity shop and we applied ourselves to three of them. The walk up Loughrigg Fell, next to Ambleside, provided  the best views. Here are three views from near the top, looking down to Grasmere or away to Thirlemere.

However, we failed to make it to the top of The Old Man of Coniston by way of Wetherlam, but the views on the way up were wonderful.

If you click on the image you may be able to see Windermere to the left, Coniston above Brenda's head and Morecombe Bay top right.

.

We did not have the energy to walk every day so we pottered over to Furness Abbey and were greatly impressed by the ruins and the ice cream.
