Edinburgh (1)

We broke our journey to Edinburgh with a walk round the walls of Berwick upon Tweed. The view of Berwick's three bridges is always a pleasure and the largely Georgian town was a small scale introduction to the pleasures to come.

Neither Brenda or I had visited Edinburgh and were not prepared for the visual delights that were in store for us.

On our first morning we walked from Haymarket, down Princes Street, to Carlton Hill. The views across Princes Street Gardens to The Old Town were wonderful apart from the distraction of a Peroni hoarding. What are town planners paid for!

.

Ramsey Gardens was an Arts and Crafts triumph, daringly positioned next to the castle.

.

Waverley Station gets in the way a bit however.

The view from Carlton Hill, towards the castle is well known.

.

The spot the difference solution is that I have cloned out the flagpole on the North British Hotel.

.

We then walked back up The Royal Mile, lingering to wonder how the Scottish Parliament Building could be so ugly, to the Castle Esplanade and a closer look at Ramsey Gardens.

We later explored some of the New Town which was magnificent but difficult to photograph because of the wide vistas and parked cars.
