Halifax and Hell

While we did not need "The Good Lord" to deliver us from Halifax we felt less than welcome as we were first escorted out of The Piece Hall, while a pop group rehearsed, and then denied access to The Minster because of an organ recital. However we were allowed in to the market and permitted to wander round the town.

We arrived at the conserved All Souls, Haley Hill to find it closed but were thankfully able to contact the key holder, who let us in to this huge, grand but dustily decaying Victorian Church.

Hell was glimpsed as I got lost, yomping across the peat and heather of Midhope Moors; doing myself some damage in the process. The views from Margery Hill and Howden Moors were almost worth it.

Thankfully New Mills was both welcoming and accident free with Torr Vale Mill and the precipitously perched central railway station (one of two) being perennial favourites.
