Bath - The Paragon

I had not visited Bath for decades and then only the tourist hot spots in the centre. A couple of nights' stay enabled us to explore more widely and while I was initially rather indifferent to the seemingly endless Georgian terraces I became enchanted by the place and how it had become the centre for so much wealth and grand design.

When I first saw The Paragon (otherwise known as the A4) I was overwhelmed by the beautiful sweep of terraced town houses. However, as with so many other roads in Bath, any photograph would be ruined by parked cars, queueing traffic, road signs, rubbish bags and people. The attached link shows what is possible but for me the challenge was to eliminate these distractions as much as possible.

As often happens, I take the trouble to carry a tripod and then cannot be bothered to use it. However sometimes a shallow depth of field can work.

The rear elevation was precipitous and imposing but hardly elegant.

Adopting a similar approach to the famous Pump Room produced another minimalist view.

However, sometimes cars just had to be included and waiting in the rain for a street to empty or cloning out people and road signs from a scene was simply too much trouble.
