Heritage

I discovered by accident that this is Heritage Weekend - an EU wide celebration of old stuff. We were visiting Quaker Bottom in nearby High Flatts for the first time and chanced upon an open day for the Friends Meeting House (Link to leaflet).

The Meeting House had a good feel to it, with no Victorian brown varnish, but the bright sun and a basic camera caused some contrast problems.

The Meeting House is just one of a number of charming stone built houses and barns that were originally owned by Quakers.

Other old things that I have photographed in the last few days have included:

The Chantry Chapel in Rotherham

.

The Jacobean fireplace at the Carbrook Hall pub:

This has a centre panel showing Wisdom (a tall man in pyjamas) crushing Ignorance (an emaciated figure having a much needed lie down) underfoot.

A terrace of colourful, but badly maintained, workman's cottages on Canning Street in Sheffield.
