Gloom

It's been a gloomy week for many reasons so I felt I should embrace the grayness and take some images that made the most of the mists and fogs. A small group of trees just by the A629, near Wortley, proved a worthwhile subject for my Olympus E600. I had to set a high ISO but the noise seems to suit the subject.

I returned to the, less than sunny, sunflowers as they dripped in the fog.

One of the things to brighten the week was a sale of "junk" at Harrison Cameras and I did my best to relive them of as much as possible. An Exa II was bought for a friend and I enjoyed its elegant but idiosyncratic lines.

I also bought an early Olympus digital camera for a fiver, in the mistaken belief that it was very sensitive to infra red light. It has a massive 2 MP sensor and I unleashed this awesome power on a plate of fruit and a garden chair.

Brenda and I planned to spend three hours in Wakefield, prior to going to the cinema to see the motor racing movie "Rush", but half an hour was too long and we went to an earlier showing. The film was excellent and our pleasure was enhanced by being half of the audience.

Wakefield has invested heavily in a new merchant quarter and building work is much in evidence.

In an effort to lift our spirits we decided to take a train to Barnsley to view the RPS Print Exhibition. However the train was running 40 minutes late so I ended up driving.

The exhibition was first class and the view from The Civic Gallery was also worth recording.

Barnsley was the capital of the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire with a bold headquarters building, in rugged 60's style. The republic fell but the building remains; although empty for many years. Someone has decided to make it in to a rainbow perhaps hoping for a, much needed, crock of gold.
