Holme Styes

We were introduced to Holme Styes, a small wooded reservoir near Holmfirth, by an old school friend and enduring drummer. The autumn colours were past their best, as recent bad weather had stripped most of the trees. It was rather dull, and the picture taking was rushed, so some post capture manipulation was needed to create the images that I had envisaged rather than recorded.

The noble beech tree does not fair well in the wild Pennine foothills and is generally found only, in stunted form, in small sheltered valleys.

The chaotic jumble of branches is perhaps better caught using a negative black and white image?

Our walk took us past a ruined settlement called Hades, with a good supply of logs ready to fuel the burning fiery furnace.
