Beverley, Barton and Thorne

It's Heritage Weekend and we journeyed to Beverley to have a look round some of the Georgian houses.

.

However as the interior fittings looked much like everybody else's it was rather disappointing even though the town itself was a pleasure to walk around.

.

St Mary's church was one highlight.

After a whiz around the Minster we crossed the Humber Bridge to visit St Peter's Church in Barton upon Humber. It is famous for its Saxon tower but photography was difficult as the main church was bright and the Saxon area very dark.

The exterior of the Saxon section is simple and beautiful.

.

Then on to Thorne to introduce a weary Brenda to the extraordinary war memorial in the church. The commentary in the following link is helpful.

Unfortunately the Georgian houses in Thorne have fared less well than those in Beverley. This one is next to the church.
