Fotografías turísticas - The Alhambra

We celebrated my 70th birthday in Granada with Helen and managed to get some cancellation tickets to visit the Alhambra the following day.

The Alhambra is a complex of buildings and gardens of which the most breathtaking is the Nasrid Palace.

Photography is not easy given the crowds, all vying for the best shot, the high contrast light and the old problem of converging verticals. As this is probably the most photographed building in the world the following snaps are just a glimpse of the wonders within.

Because of the crowds, general views are best seen in guide books and on the internet.

The Albaysin is the original Moorish city and it looks magical from the palace windows.

.

As with all historic buildings, it is hard to tell the original structure from the renovation, but either way the plaster work is magnificent.

The netting over much of the exterior plasterwork is to prevent the many swifts from making their nests in the crevices. There is a multimillion Euro project to "relocate" them.

The next two pictures are of the Tower of the Ladies within the gardens.

The Generalife is wonderful but feels a bit of a let-down after The Alhambra.
