After my trip to Birkin I developed a need for some proper Norman architecture and Worksop Priory seemed a good place to begin. While magnificently massive it had signs of being reworked and the views suffered from too many spot lights, which shone green(!) when we first arrived.

The east end has been completely rebuilt.

Thorpe Salvin had a Norman heart but hand holding an ancient digital camera was not the best option although it gave the pictures a sense of an Edwardian postcard. The font is said to be the most interesting Norman font in the country but was situated where it was impossible to see all sides.

The ruins of Thorpe Salvin Hall provided a dramatic backdrop.

Another "note to self" was to explore the churches in my area more fully; which took me to Tickhill, Ecclesfield, Wentworth, Ossett and Horbury.
