Bren and I celebrated Jubilee Monday with a walk on the undiscovered footpaths of Hoylandswaine. We experienced a heavy Jubilee shower and traversed some waist high Jubilee nettles and had a Jubilee jolly good journey.
We passed a modern field: by which I mean plastic
.
Which contrasted with barley blowing in the breeze; like waves in the wind.
One of the nicest Jubilee surprises has been a present from a neighbour. The tiny Braun Paxette is dwarfed by the Dynax 9 and while it would be foolish to pretend there was any real comparison in quality between them, it is instructive to note how 1953 was neat while the 1998 was large.
.
I have intended to photograph the Norfolk Arms in Burngreave for years and finally did so last week, albeit long after it has blossomed and faded as a pub and died as a strip joint.
.
The decline of pubs and pub life mirrors the fall in the fortunes of Sheffield and the UK. Pubs were there for steel men to slake their thirst after working with molten metal. Who needs a drink after a trip to Tesco? If you do; you have already bought it to drink at home
.
I plan a series of "The Tiled Pubs of Sheffield" but up to now can only think of three. Watch this space!?
