Tattershall and West Ashby

An early celebration of Barbara's birthday took us to Tattershall Castle and we were surprised and delighted find a magnificent church nearby. The wonderfully named Collegiate Church of The Holy Trinity, The Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Peter the Apostle, St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist was almost of cathedral proportions.

The church leaflet says that the building was completed in 1500 and had some of the best medieval stained glass in the country. However in 1735 the incumbent vicar is supposed to have said "can this dark stuff not be removed and replaced with clear" and I for one am not complaining.

The church was crowded and the light was harsh so I did not try to capture the grandeur of the place and concentrated, as usual, on some details.

The crowds at a Christmas Fayre in the castle repelled us from exploring further and I was left with the grasses growing in the moat as a souvenir.

All Saints, West Ashby is a pleasant church but again my interest was drawn to the detail, especially in the vestry.
