In my search to find licence for greater photographic abstraction I have been reading a couple of books about Wynne Bullock. His approach is glimpsed in the interview in this link which also gives a good selection of his images.

Key images for me are a picture of a tree trunk printed as an inverted negative image and a felled tree surrounded by new growth, which exemplifies Bullock's theory of opposites..

It was interesting to find information of Wynne Bullock's second wife Edna and a film about her photographic journey. Their daughter Barbara is also a photographer and advocate for her parents' work.

Here's an image from the early 1980s that was meant as a homage to Wynne Bullock plus a few others from the film era.
